Welcome on board, three new bright Ph.D. candidates!
We are incredibly pleased to welcome three new additions to our research group, Mr. Upendra Kumar Shah, Mr. Yibo Ma, and Mr. Zhang Li.
Upendra Kumar Shah. Originally from Nepal, Shah has gained broad international exposure prior to joining The University of Hong Kong. He obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and Master's Degree (MSc) in Geotechnical Engineering from Pulchowk Engineering College of Tribhuvan University, Nepal, with a Scholarship sponsored by the Nepal Government. He also earned his second Master's Degree (MSc) in Structural and Earthquake Engineering under the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship in EU-NICE, Greece. Shah also gained industrial experience as Structural Engineer at AECOM in Thailand. Upon joining The University of Hong Kong, Shah was awarded the University Postgraduate Fellow (UPF) and Lee Shau Kee Postgraduate Fellow.
Yibo Ma obtained his M.S. and B.S. degrees in Civil Engineering from Tongji University in 2020 and 2017, respectively. During his study at Tongji University, he was award China National Scholarship in 2016 and was selected as the Shanghai Outstanding Graduate in 2017 and a TJU Outstanding Student (2016 and 2017). He was also the winner of the 1st Prize of 2015 Mathematical Contest in Modeling at Shanghai, 2nd Prize of 2016 Think Youth-Shanghai Innovation & Entrepreneurship Competition, and TJU 1st Prize Scholarship for Studying Excellent in 2015. Upon joining The University of Hong Kong, Ma has been selected as the prestigious HKU Presidential Fellowship awardee.
